A few weeks ago, while walking around Los Feliz with a good friend, the subject of my current lack of sex and romance came up. I mentioned how much society has changed since the pandemic, when it comes to men and dating. I went on to rant, in a half joking manner, about how nobody flirts with me in the grocery store anymore, leaves comments like, “you’re hot” on my instagram, slides into my DMs saying inappropriate shit, or even just checks me out while I walk by. I wondered if I was just getting older and emitting a different vibe, or if men are so afraid of being deemed inappropriate, and the retribution that could potentially follow, that they’ve shut it all down, keeping their eyes trained fearfully on their own papers. I made a bold statement, out loud so the universe and the fairies could hear, “I kinda miss being objectified!”
