My Egregore
On group consciousness, being single, Valentine's Day, and the ever so trendy age gap relationship.
MY EGREGORE
An Egregore is a non-physical entity created by the shared thoughts and emotions of a group of people. It’s a consciousness. For example, the term could be applied to the group-think of a religious community. I have an Egregore. I’m not part of its collective but it lives with me. Or rather, I live with it.
Sometimes it surrounds and envelopes me like a dusty aura, and I cough and wheeze; my eyes water, my nose runs. I can’t figure out what on earth I’m allergic to, because it isn’t of this earth. Then there are days when it feels like a warm hug. Other times it follows me - a dark cloud casting a shadow that jump scares me. If I’m not careful, it penetrates me violently with infrared, stinging rays, stabbing throughout my being and twisting my organs in anguish. But then I look to it as my North Star. I feel I would be lost without it.
It asks me invasive questions: what color are your underwear? Will you come to Colorado? How do you make your money? Are you on your period? …
