Last year I took a personal essay class where I pitched three writing ideas to the group: Something about getting sober, something about an emotional affair, and finally, about the time a boyfriend dumped me and began dating a very famous person. The class obviously jumped hard on the latter, and I produced an essay that I titled, “I Don’t Get Mad, I Get Famous”. (Serendipitously, I noticed my friend Bonnie Mckee released a song with a similar title this week.)
I submitted the essay to a publication I won’t name, and when I didn’t hear back for a long time, I decided to submit elsewhere. I knew the Huffington Post had a personal essay section, so I sent it there. I heard back from the editor within minutes; a resounding YES.
Then I held my breathe for a couple months as I waited for it to come out, and two days ago it did, along with a flashy, new, click-bait-y title:
